Photo Format

I'm trying to change a photo from .bmp to .jpg or .gif fiiles, and I'm not
having any luck.
Can anyone offer any advice on if the format can be changed, and if so, what
are the steps ?

Open it in Paint and then Save As jpg or gif.
Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories and Paint.
In Paint, click on File and Open. Select the folder and picture you want to
open.
Then, click on File and Save As.
For the "Save as type" box, scroll and select JPEG and click on Save.
