I have a phone with answering machine that is conected to my pc. I have
activated the fax feature including incoming faxes. Now when the phone rings
the fax automaticly picks up and theanswering machine is worthless. Other
than manually answering the fax is there anyway to let the phone and fax live
in peace

two lines maybe the only way.

You can set your phone to answer after a certain amount of rings. You can
also do that for your fax. Your PC will need to ON to receive a fax if you
are
anticipating one and set it for less rings than your answer machine. If you
are not expecting a fax, shutdown your PC and let the phone pick up after a
certain number of rings.

Try a Fax Switch. GOOGLE will show you several.
I used one for a long time. You set your Answer Machine to pick up
right away. The Fax Switch listens on the line and if it hears the FAX
tone before your Ans Mach message starts, the call is routed to the
FAX.
