Phone Dialer set up

After reinstalling windows XP Professional, Version 2002
with Service pack 1 installed, I have a problem with the
Active Voice Dialer 1.5 (Developed by Micrsoftby Active
Voice 1998) installed on my Dell Dimension 8200. Going to
www.active voice.com/dialer I was not able to find an
update and discovered the company has since been sold.

I am unable to set up the dialer which is not allowing me
to finish the installation of ACT software build
6.0.3.979.

To isolate the problem where I get a Error: Phone Dialer

I press the start key

run .....type dialer
next screen is the phone dialer screen which says the
selected server is not responding. (I can send faxes
using Winfax Pro 10.03 so I know the modem is working)

In the upper left corner I press dial and enter a local
phone number.

The next screen comes up as:

Error:phone Dialer
Operation: Placing a call.
Details: Failed trying to make a call.
Error: Catastrophic Failure

Please advise so I can get the dialer set up my ACT ACT
software build 6.0.3.979.(Just upgraded).

Please advise how I can get a new dialer to work with
XP...

I have a somewhat similar problem. (Windows XP Home
edition, etc...) I mucked around with the Advanced window
in phone and modem options. I get the same error message.
Any ideas on where to look for
setup/install/uninstall/diagnostic info to help correct
this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up calling Microsoft and paying the $35.00. They
were very helpful, got it working. I updated the modem
driver and had problems again. Microsoft said Dell should
have informed me there was an upgrade for my mother board
prior to doing a clean reinstall for all my programs.

Good luck. I have to do a complete backup and upgrade my
mother board.
