Philips CDRW 404 with XP problem

I have been using my Philips cdrw404 with XP for over a year now. I've just
bought new hard drives, reinstalled windows and it still worked fine.
Today however, It stopped working!! Windows recognizes it but flags it in
the hardware devices.
It has no mapping in explorer.
The drive still works as I've tried it with my old install of xp (which is
still on another hard drive). So what the hell can I do to get it going
again?
I've obviously done something to blow the driver away.
I've uninstalled the driver and let windows find it again, I've been to
philips online and all they have is some kind of flash program which does
not recognize it.
I've found some other flash program which works off a floppy, that did
nothing!
Is there not a simple driver somewhere which install like a normal driver or
do I have to roll back XP to yesterday?

Any help
Slowly going insane here

Si,

Sounds like you need a WinXP compliant version of the Freecom driver
for the USB to IDE "cable" controller. It may be available through
Microsoft Update (you have to redownload all that stuff anyway) or you
can get it here from the Freecom site:
