'Phantom' Office install process for new user

On setting up a third user on our XPHome laptop, an unnecessary 'please wait
while Windows installs...' message cycle begins whenever an Office programme
is clicked. The process looks for the msi file on a network that does not
exist, but is not necessary in any case because if one simply cancels the
installer as soon as the pop up appears, the programmes load just fine.

There are quite a lot of references to similar messages found in searching,
but they seem to refer to fixes that don't apply in our case. Many refer to
downloading an 'Orctools.exe' file, which does not seem to be at the links
given; changing a registry value, that does not exist in our case; or
reinstalling Access - which seems a plainly weird thing to do!

Oddly, this problem has not occurred previously when setting up new users.
This user was initially set up as a 'User' account, but the problem still
persists if it is changed to an administrator.
It also persists when Office is set to be shared across the network.

How do I stop this unnecessary pop up?

Cheers,

Since your problem relates to MS Office, the best place to
ask the question would be an MS Office newsgroup.

Wasn't sure this was specifically an Office problem as it seems to relate to
one new profile set up in XPHome only. I will post the qestion there too
though.

This usually happens when there are different versions of MS Office
applications installed (e.g., Word 2003 and Word 2007).

If you have such different versions, see

Information about running multiple versions of Office with Office 2003

and

Thanks Lem, I will check it out: I am always a bit wary of stripping out old
versions in case I delete something that turns out to be vital, so there may
be just such a mismatch as you describe.
