PFN List Corrupt & Safe Mode Upon Startup

Rec'd the error "PFN List Corrupt"; had to reboot PC (Home
Edition of XP). Tried "last known good configuration" upon
reboot. Didn't work. Same PFN List Corrupt error. I CAN
get in via Safe Mode, checked Event Logs, hardware, cannot
find anything wrong. PC will NOT come up on anything but
safe mode. Sony VAIO tech support said only option was to
do SYSTEM RESTORE from the Restore CD. Ouch! (I CAN take
the system back to another restore date, when I did that,
it said that it completed successfully, yet will still
only come up in SAFE MODE; if try NORMAL MODE, still get
the PFN List Corrupt error. HELP! thanks!

Usually caused by a faulty hardware driver or bad RAM. See:

to a few more references about this error message on that page.

I had the problem as of the moment i installed internet on my PC using a USB networking adapter.
I tried everything, but kept getting the PFN List Corrupt error.
After i uninstalled it and used the internal networkadapter the problem was solved. There are a lot of different answers to this problem on the internet, but I haven`t seen this one, so here it is.
