PERSONAL.XLS file

If I have a spreadsheet open and try to open a fresh spreadsheet, the blank
spreadsheet that opens is my PERSONAL.XLS spreadsheet and it is "read only".
When I go to window>hide, then try to close the PERSONAL.XLS file, Excel will
only let me close the window if I save or don't save. How do I fix that?

Saving the file forces me to save a spreadsheet as "Book 2", and this doesn't
fix the problem the next time I'm in Excel. Also, it's interfering with the
macros I already have saved.

Close Excel, find the personal.xls from explorer and remove read only, then
open excel, hide the personal.xls and close excel and when prompted about
personal.xls save it. Or copy all code over to notepad, close excel, find
and delete the personal.xls. Open Excel, create a new one by record a short
nonsense macro in the personal macro workbook, press Alt + F11, open the
module in personal.xls and remove the pseudo code you did when creating it,
paste in the code from notepad, press Alt + Q to close the editor, close
excel and save the changes in the personal.xls when prompted
