Personal address book won't open?

Guest

I am recieving the error message:
"Your personal address book could not be opened. The file is either not
accessible or not a personal address book."
I am given the option to retry (which doesn't work) or cancel, which closes
outlook. I have a great deal of info stored in outlook folders. Please help

You should post some actual information with your question. Outlook has not
used a PAB for nearly a decade, which brings to mind such questions as what
version of Outlook you are using, why it even has a reference to a PAB, and
what steps you are using to produce this error message.

I am using Office XP and Outlook 2002. I fixed the problem myself. I
noticed that my outlook.pst file and my .pab file were both checked as "read
only files". I unchecked the "read only" box and outlook loaded. I then
couldn't change my calendar because of a problem accessing the "form.dat"
file so I looked at that file and it was "read only", also. I unchecked the
"read only" box on that file and was able to set appointments in my calendar.
I must be the only person that this has happened to because I couldn't find
anything on MS Outlook support to help me.

Thanks anyway

Phil

That doesnt explain why you are using a pab, if indeed you are. This could
lead to further problems down the line

The PAB was replaced by the Contacts Folder years ago. Just migrate your
data to your Contacts Folder and remove the PAB from your profile.

via the mail applet in the control panel, E-mail Accounts>Directory
section>view or change..........
This assumes you have migrated the pab to OL Contacts, as per the previous
link
