Hi All,

This is my first post and I am definitely not a computer expert by any
stretch of the imagination so can you please be gentle with me? I have tried
to include as much info as possible, so sorry if this is a bit lengthy.

Over the last couple of weeks, have had an error that has been popping up
regularly which closes down some programmes and sometimes closes the
computer. I run Windows XP home edition and have tried to locate this
"problem" on the computer so I can deal with it (ie - delete it) but it seems
to be well hidden - have searched the system many times using all sorts of
different paremeters, but it doesn't find anything, and have deleted all my
temporary folders as it looked like that was where it was hiding.
I also recently installed Norton Anti-virus 2007, which identified it during
installation as an "issue" (did not say was a virus or any further info
though, and let me finalise installation). It obviously didn't fix it either!

The info from the error report (when it tells me the system has recovered
from a serious error) is as follows -

Error signature.
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF828A0C BCP3 : A008F658
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

Files included in error report.
C:\DOCUME~1\Julie\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER82cb.dir00\Mini120106-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Julie\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER82cb.dir00\sysdata.xml

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many, many thanks in advance.

Julie :)

What you are seeing is called a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error. These
being the relevant parts.

BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005

The problem is memory related, perhaps a misbehaving driver.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Can you post copies of relevant reports from Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hi Gerry,

Thankyou for your reply - and I've even learnt something! I didn't even
know about the event viewer, I have always just looked at the details of the
error when it asks me if I want to send it to microsoft. Below is the latest
error from the event viewer - (it's really long!). I did also check the
device manager (as that was where the microsoft link advised me to check) - I
expanded all the trees and nothing has a question mark next to it so if it is
a driver error, then I don't know which one. Have not added any new hardware
recently, so am a bit stumped....any suggestions?

Again, thankyou for your patience and simple explanation, these forums can
be a little bit intimidating if you are not a computer expert.

Regards
Julie.
