Persistent driver problem

O

OntalOneirism

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, considering i'm
using XP64, but hopefully someone can help me. I've read up quite
extensively on this very error. It appears a lot of people have gotten
it. However, i haven't been able to find any actual solutions to it,
only ways to sort of ignore the problem.

I'm getting the error message at seemingly random times. The times when
i've gotten it are:

1. Playing a demo of Tribes Vengeance that came with my video card, to
test the card out.
2. After trying to install the 32 bit drivers for my mouse.
3. When clicking on various things in IE
4. When using MSN messenger

This error seems to be happening more and more frequently. The error
consists of the computer restarting itself, then coming up with one of
those error report messages from XP. In the technical info that it
displays, only two files are listed:

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8b25.dir00\Mini122205-03.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8b25.dir00\Sysdata.xml

I've been working on this problem pretty much all day. I've found out
that the problem seems to be stemming from my video card. I turned off
automatic restart, so i started getting the BSOD whenever the error
occured. I can get the info from that if any of you need it to know
whats going on, but every time the same file was listed, among others:
ati2dvag.dll

I also turned off memory dump, and deleted all minidump files. I
haven't deleted the sysdata.xml files yet, but i'm working on that.

I also went into C:\WINDOWS\System32 and attempted to delete the
ati2dvag.dll file. I was succesful in deleting it, but only for about 5
seconds. The file then simply reappeared. I need to get rid of this
file i'm pretty sure, or else the error will keep occurring. The file
description said that it was a windowsNT display driver for ATI Radeon
cards, which doesn't sound too good, considering i'm using XP64.

Other things i did: ran a memory test (various people on various forums
said that the problem usually stems from memory) the test came out
normal, no problems.

As i said before, I looked extensively at other forums, microsoft
problem listings or whatever (including
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318023 which
was pretty unhelpful). All i found were ways in which to IGNORE the
problem, not SOLVE it. I have succesfully found out how to get rid of
the error message, how to make my computer not restart, how to stop the
memory dumps, etc. None of these are really helping me.

The one other thing i did that makes me think this ati2dvag.dll file
might not have a lot to do with it is I completely uninstalled all ATI
software on my computer. I kept the computer on for a while (how long
it would usually take to restart) and the computer did not restart.

Sorry for the massive post. Any help on this would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.
