Hi All,

Here's my problem.

I am using a remote hosting solution and publishing with
FP2003. My PC is XP Home.

When I publish to the server, FrontPage is changing the
permissions to 555, 644 and 444, even though they were
reset to 755. My host tells me the optimum is 755.

The host has other FP2003 users who don't have this
problem. What could be causing this to happen.

When you publish w/ FP to a site w/ the FP SE, FP handles the permissions
- on a Unix server thru .htaccess
If you change them, the FP SE will probably no longer work

IMHO
Your host is leaving you wide open recommending 755 (opens Execute for All users!) for your site.

If it is a specific folder (say for cgi-bin) that requires global Execute permissions, in FP convert that folder to a subweb and
then never open it in FP again

Hi Stephan,

I believe they are on Linux. The Directory where the
permissions are set on the server is "docshttp"

I have never worked with or changed permission in any way
for my previous sites. So, what would be the proper
permission for a standard web page, where I am the only
one who would be publishing or making live changes?

Does the site have the FP SE, if so let FP handle the root web permissions
If you are looking for server setup suggest you try a Linux group or http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/index.asp

Stefan,

Yes they have the extensions. They host other FrontPage
users. Will take a look at the Linux link.

Thanks by the way.
