permissions question

I roughly know how to create a subweb and set permissions but is there a way
to just have a password? Or can it be setup where no matter who goes to the
subweb the user name us filled out and they just have to put in a password.
I know that sometimes this is all handled through the hosting company but I
wanted to cover my bases and check in here as well.

I just have a basic FrontPage 2003 site and I need for people to click a
link to go to a specific page via a password for 5 to 10 minutes and then
restrict access... it's a sort of contest type thing so it needs to be
simple and just a password field.

Not possible to do with FP Permissions.

Using FP subweb permissions, you could preset the User ID by set the initial value of the form
field, then the user would only need to enter the password.

Well I think that would work for my needs, at least for now... but now I
can't remember how to get the server options ungreyed (I haven't tried to do
this since FP2000 and I just don't remember). Do I have to open the site
live and create my subweb there to do it?

Sorry for the question, I can remember this being one of those that everyone
hate's to see... but I just haven't done anything with FP (or anything on
the web) in quite a while.

You have to open the site live and then create the subweb, then open the subweb and set permissions.
If the option is not available, then your web host doesn't allow you to use this function.

oh one last question... oh and thanks for all the help... once I create the
subweb live, do I have to do all my work with that subweb live as well? In
other words.. I can no longer work with my remote site for this section of
the site?

If you want to test permissions, etc. you will have to do this form the live/remote site, other you
can do everything locally and then publish.
