Permission to Network Share

I have a W2K domain with AD running. Client systems are running XP Pro. Two
system have accounting software installed for sharing. One of the XP boxes
has the accounting database folder shared (winsim). The other accounting XP
box access this folder over the network. when i browse the network using my
network places i can open this folder and see all the contents of each
folder. However when I open the accounting program on the client XP box it
asks do I want to open an existing company I select yes. From here I browse
the network back the (winsim) shared data base. I select a year and get a
message that I don't not have permission to access. how can this be if I can
browse and open the folder and files through my network places.

Either this is a permissions problem, or you are accessing the share in a
different way.

Remember that shares on NTFS volumes have TWO kinds of permissions, those on
the share itself, and those on the files and folders inside the share. In
general (Unless you have an MCSE or equivalent knowledge) I advise setting
share permissions and leaving the filesystem-permissions strictly alone.

In any case I suggest that this is not a good way to work. If the XP box
gets switched off while others are accessing the share, you could have your
accounts data corrupted. Since you are on a domain that indicates a server
exists. Put the database folder on the server and share it from there. Note
that the accounts data should be in a separate folder-tree on the server
specifically for shared data, NOT in Program Files or Documents and Settings
as the special filesystem-permissions on these areas may interfere with
sharing.
