Permanent Removal of a virtual CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device

Some application installed what is noted in the 'Device Manager' as
'AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device' , on my Win XP SP1 Pro system.

I initially thought Nero did it but removing Nero does not remove this
virtual drive. I can uninstall it in the Device Manager by right
clicking it and choosing Uninstall, but when I reboot, it comes right
back.

How to permanently remove it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
