CDROM Drives in Device/Hardware Manager

F

Five By Five

I have been having problems with burning CD-Rs (Maxell, no slouch brand).

At first I was doing it through WinExplorer. Then I tried Nero 6.

Nero 6 has a FAQ that states that the user should make sure that firmware
is updated for the particular drive.

So I open Device Manager, and I find that there are THREE DVD/CDROM
"devices" even though I think there is only one.

They are:

PW2394N SKE841D SCSI CdRom Device
QK3406U SGZ561J SCSI CdRom Device
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2512

I actually download something from the Toshiba USA website that purports to
be a firmware update for the SD-R2512, then it tells me it cannot find the
target drive.

I don't even know how to update the other "CdRom Devices."

I know one thing: I am tired of WinExplorer and Nero burning nothing on
CD-Rs and making them unwritable thereafter.

What is the matter here?

http://hijacker.rpc1.org/toshiba/index.php?path=SD-R2512/

Instructions:
1. Make Bootable Floppy Disk
2. Extract all files of the ZIP file onto Boot Disk
3. Reboot PC with Boot Disk inserted.
4. Type
update.bat <return>
F/W will now be updated (you may be prompted to insert a disk, any CD
will do)
5. Wait for Flashing to finish.
6. Reboot PC

If you are using Nero ie.. have it installed, then you may need to disable
the inbuilt XP CD Wiz.. In my computer window, in the properties tab for the
burner, recording tab, uncheck the box "enable cd recording on this drive"
that will disable it..
I use Nero and have also set the IMAPI CD-burning Com Service to "manual"
either or both will just stop the XP CD Wiz from interfering with Nero or
vice versa, running both can cause instability, did on my system anyway,
works fine now since turning off the CD Wiz..
Cheers
