Performance logs and alerts service

Does anyone know why this service would stop by itself immediately after
being started?

I ran some logs through Perfmon on three of our servers. The next day
noticed that the service on each of the servers was stopped. I restarted it
one each and later that day noticed that it was once again stopped. I little
investigating revealed that it stops almos immediately after it is started.

If anyone has a clue as to what would cause this i would appreciate hearing
from you...because I am once again Stumped

All the event viewer shows are the success audits of the process starting and
immediately stopping. No other entries...and I'm logging everything the event
viewer can log. Thanks for giving it some thought

If the system and or application logs are blank then the files are probably
corrupt. Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log
Service|General, set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then
delete (or move) the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config
then set the Event Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart
for effect.

The logs are working correctly, but the only reference to the performance
logs and alerts service that show up are the success audit when I start the
service and the success audit (usually within the same second) when the
service stops. It's only doing this on the three servers I ran the
performance logs on. I did find this in reference to someone else's problem
with the automatic updates service... "Some services stop automatically if
they have no work to do, for example, the
Performance Logs and Alerts service"...But that brings up another question;
Why would it only stop after running logs?

Don't know if my ramblings have been of any help, but i do appreciate the
time and thought you've given this,

Are you starting the service or the log? The service will start when
required such as when you start a counter log, etc. In other words, don't
worry about it.
