pending installation.

Help! Trying to install Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 (standard). It needs
to install Visual C ++ 8.0 Runtime for DNS. That installation keeps failing.

It says that there's some sort of previous installation / reboot pending,
and to reboot to complete that installation. As far as I know, there aren't
any pending installations. I've rebooted three times, and that hasn't helped.

What the heck do I do now? How do I find and cancel any pending
installations? I don't know enough to mess around with registry entries, if
it's not absolutely necessary.

I doubt VERY much that the WICU utility will help here - good as it is, it
won't catch the sort of thing that the OP is seeing here.... in fact it will
only catch things that are installed by MSI files, IIRC
