I'm stumped on this one, I hope someone has an answer. I recently had a
commercial PC game cd stop working (when I went to reinstall it (it
previously worked fine), neither my dvd-rom or my dvd-r/rw would start it up
with autorun: they would just keep spinning like they were trying to start.
I could see the disc in My Computer & could access the contents by
right-clicking the drive icon and using the "open" command, but could not
run the setup executable. This same event could be duplicated on 2 other PCs
in my house, one of which I had just done a fresh reinstall of WinXP, so it
wasn't gummed up by a bunch of software issues. Oddly enough, I tried some
other discs in my house in the various PCs and they all work fine. To
further complicate the issue, I just bought 2 game CD-ROMs at a local store,
and they both present the same non-working issue on all 3 PCs. I'm open to
any suggestions, including viruses, although the one PC is a pretty fresh
install of XP so I don't think that is it. Thanks in advance.

Original retail CD's?

yes original cds from the original mfr. (retail box), not copies. the 1st
game I encountered the problem was Blitzkrieg by CDV software, and one of
the others was Codename Panzers, also by CDV. the other was some collection
of mahjong games my wife picked up, not sure of the maker there.
