PDF Files won't open

When i click any link on a web page which should open a
PDF document, my browser does not show me naything.I have
Adobe Acrobat 5.0 on my machine. The only way i can read
the PDF file is by downloading the document on my hard
disk and reading it from that folder.

Why does'nt the pdf file open from the browser itself?
