Opening or downloading Adobe Acrobat pdf files and IE in WinXP Hom

Thank you to everyone here! I have been having problems for the past few
days trying to open pdf files from various websites. I had recently
installed the newest version of Adobe Acrobat, 7.0.7 and IE 6, and started
having problems when I tried to open or download pdf files, the browser
window would become non-responsive. Then, even if I tried to open local pdf
files, they wouldn't open and the only way I found to resolve the issue was
to reboot - that allowed me to open local pdf files. I read from one of the
posts here that adobe may be attempting to open in a browser window, and that
was using more memory resources than available. I switched the open in adobe
to not open in a browser window, and now I can get pdfs from websites again.
Thanks again so much!
