PDF association in WinMail or Windows LIVE MAIL on VISTA

Like others in this forum, I'm having the same problem.

A mail containing a PDF file cannot be opened or read inside the mail
programs.
I get the message that the association has to be set in the Control
Panel.

It CAN be read if saved, so the association exists.

I have gone over the associations, and also used the program
UNASSOC.EXE to remove PDF associations, then went to repair Adobe
8.1.1. to re-do the associations.

After a re-boot, the problem is still there.

I've searched various sites, and nobody seems to have a solution.
