cannot open pdf files in windows mail?

I cannot open pdf files in windows mail. I have downloaded adobe 9.1 and
created an association for pdf in defaults for adobe 9.1. I can save files
to documents and open them there but not in windows mail? I keep getting a
message that there needs to be an association to the pdf file in windows
mail before I can open it? Can anyone help? Only mildly computer literate!
