PDC Domain Master Browser

Im sure this has been asked many times but Im hoping someone can
enlighten me.

Just lately after some Linux pc's (running Samba) coming on to the
network we are experiencing problems maintaing server lists.

I know there can be issues with Samba winning elections, but this is
not the case here.

I have set my PDC (Win 2K) to maintain the server list (this is
obviously set as Domain Master) which it wasn't before, a BDC (win 2K)
is also set to maintain server list. However, the list seems happier
being maintained by win2k and XP clients on the network. Idon't want
to change the registry on each client to explicity state not to hold
the list. This is causing major headaches to the Linux users as they
can't mount there drives if they can't see the users PC.

What should I do?

Thanks

Gary

If you disable the computer browser service on a computer it can not become a master
browser, though it still can see computers in the browse list. You may want to do
that on your XP computers at least. You can disable services for computers via Group
Policy if need be under computer configuration/Windows settings/security
settings/services but I would only do that at the OU level where I would put the
computers I want to have the policy applied to because if you do it at the domain
level you would disable it on all W2K/XP Pro computers in the domain possibly. ---
