pcmcia ethernet card

WinXP home. Tried to connect to the internet and my network using a pcmcia
card. Installed , drivers loaded, XP recognizes it but tells me it has no
connectivity. Network is through a router from a cable modem. Cables
(connections) are good, because I can connect to the internet and network
through a USB adapter using same cables. System check doesn't show any
conflicts. Have reset modem and router, no help.
