PCI Simple Communications Controller

I have been having blue screen errors like crazy which frequently point to
device driver errors. My computer rebooted at about 6 pm today and now I
have a PCI Simple Communications Controller device that wants to install, but
when I let it install, I get the message that it can't. I read on another
forum that this happens when a communications device is malfunctioning. Has
anyone ever had this? Please help.

Which device - that you had before but do not have now - is it?

Modem?
Network Card?

Sounds more to me like you just need to install the latest driver from the
manufacturer for said device.

A "PCI Simple Communications Controller" means that a modem or
network card is installed, but Windows XP doesn't recognize the device;
this is just a placeholder name. There is no driver for this placeholder.

Please visit the support web site of the manufacturer of your modem
or network card and search for Windows XP compatible drivers, then
download and install them.

Download and install the Modem drivers from the modem's
manufacturer's web site, if you no longer have the driver disk that came
with the computer or modem.
