No, VIVO simply means Video In, Video Out, and does not
require 16 pipes, and there are cards with fewer pipes that
have it. The primary question is whether you need good
gaming performance, as # of pipes on modern cards aren't
very relevant to general purpose 2D use including VIVO uses.
Hi Kony, thanks...so a VIVO card may have 12 manufacturer spec pipelines,
but the actual card may have 16 that can be utilized by softmodding the
card?
you need to focus on specific cards, only then can you apply
an idea about # of pipes it supports. There is no reason
why there cannot be a card with 12 pipes that does VIVO.
but the actual card may have 16 that can be utilized by softmodding the
card?
I have no idea because you haven't even mentioned the card.
If you find a specific card that is known to be
soft-moddable, great. Naturally it would have to support
VIVO already, there is no way to add VIVO with only a
software mod, it has be implemented on the physical card.
As kony said, VIVO has nothing to do with the number of pipelines the card
uses.
You must be referring to the Geforce 6800 (not GT or Ultra), right?
If so then yes, you can softmod the generic 6800 to 16 pipes. However, you
may run into display problems with the 16 pipes unlocked. Here's a good
article on the softmod in question. http://firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_6800_unlocking/page2.asp
