PCI Adapter

Hi:
I was told that PCI Adapter on one of PCs with XP got bad when I was NOT
able to
get Ingernet Connection. When I looked at the back of the PC, however the
light of
Ethernet was bright yellow which indicating the PCI Adapter is working?

Wonder whether I need to purchase a brand new PCI Adapter in order to get
Wired-Connection? In the meantime, I've been using 'Wireless' connection to
get
Internet Connection.

You were told by whom? There is no way for us to know what is wrong with
your wired Internet connection because you haven't provide any information
so we can troubleshoot it. The amber light isn't really going to help us
here.

The First Question of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

A few suggestions:

1. Update the drivers for your network adapter (NIC). Get them from either
the NIC mftr.'s website or the OEM's website for your specific model
machine if you have that sort of computer (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.). Test.

2. If updating the drivers doesn't help, uninstall the NIC from Device
Manager and restart the computer. See if Windows finds the device and
installs drivers. Test.

3. If #1 and #2 don't work, uninstall the NIC from Device Manager and shut
down the computer. Put in a known-working PCI NIC. If this solves the
problem, discard the original NIC.
