PC (Windows XP prof) hangs after reboot

My homebuilt PC has following specifications:
- Asus P4RD1-MX mainboard (478-socket)
- 3,2 Ghz P4 Intel processor 800Mhz 1Gb cache (hyperthreading)
- 512 Mb DDR400 memorychip
- 80 Gb Maxtor HD

At this moment I did not connect other parts. The PC runs stable. The
problem is that after a reboot the PC (Windows XP prof) hangs, always
at the same point somewhere in the startup stage. This happened from
the moment that I built the PC. After interrupting the mains (removing
the mains plug) or after waiting a few minutes (when the led on the
mainboard stops burning) the PC starts without any problems.
I did a fresh install of Windows XP and used the correct drivers. I
assume that it is a hardware problem. Except for the mainboard I tried
other parts (power supply, processor, memorychip, HD) but this did not
resolve the problem. What can I do more?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Unplug computer, remove CMOS battery and short the Clear_CMOS jumper. Leave
the computer that way for about 15 minutes. Reinstall CMOS battery and set
clear-CMOS jumper to normal position. Fire up computer, enter BIOS setup
screen and load default settings (not optimized defaults) -Dave
