PC Will Not Boot

When booting the system I received a message
Windows could not start because the following files are missing
Windows root \system32\hal.dll

Inserted the Windows operating CD and booted the PC.
Entered a R to repair a windows XP installation
Then it comes back with a message saying:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Setup can not continue.

Any Help???

Possible hard drive failure.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their free
diagnostic software which will usually create a bootable CD or
diskette. Boot the computer with this and run the diagnostic test.

Good luck
