PC = SLOW! HELP PLZ

J

Jose B.

i've just reinstalled my OS xp with a fesh format then
installed widnows xp. the reason why i did this was
becuase i didnt take care of it that much like virus scan
and defrag etc. so i did a scan and took 3 viruses off
then rescan and nothing else was found.

seeing that my pc was slow my friend told me to re-format
and install windows xp. so i did so and the pc was fast
now that i installed my programs i USE and new programs
like nortons system works 2004 and nortons Internet
security 2004 i feel it runs a little to slow now.

i wanted to ask if the viruses i had before may have
infected my RAM of the pc, is this possible??? i have
256mb of RAM, is this too little for my Intel Pentium 4
2.0 ghz?? By the way this is the way it came with full OS
from Gateway.

i just think after i reinstalled everything something i
may have to tweak or what?? please help!!

Deinstall all the Norton stuff and see how it runs. I'll bet fast.
Check the web for many issues concerning Norton software chewing up systems.

Most programs you install today add them-self to the
startup list, and every-time you start your PC, they all
got loaded and run in the background. That of course
takes resources and slows your PC down. Check your
programs for an option setting to disable auto-load at
start-up.
Then..
Go to start/programs/startup..delete the programs in the
list (it does not delete the actual program)
After that, go to start/run..type:msconfig
and go to the startup tab,
all you see in this list is added after you've installed
windowsXP...go ahead and un-check the ones you don't need
running in the background (you might want to leave anti
virus&firewall)

Use Disk cleanup and Disk defragmenter.
good luck

I'd hae ro agree on the norton stuff. It runs fine on my
desk top with a P$ 1024 mb ram but on my other p4 and 512
norton sucks the memory dry....
