PC shuts down after resuming from standby or hibernation.

I am having problems resuming my sessions after putting the machine into
standby or hibernation.

In each case the machine seems to enter the required state okay & also seems
to resume back to the desktop okay. However, after a few seconds the machine
automatically shuts down completely & I have to carry out a full reboot.

Can anyone help, please?

I guess, first, i should ask, What do you do to bring it out of hibernation?
I don't use this. If you read about it. It says the system actually shuts
down completely but will return to last state on awaken.
Why not just shutdown?
Plus you need about 1gig of HD free space available to hibernate. Do you
have this?

I use the power button to bring it of hibernation, or just move the mouse to
bring it out of standby.

The purpose of using either of these modes is so that I can leave Windows &
the various programs open when I leave my PC & quickly return to them later
without having to do a full shutdown & a full bootup & open the programs all
over again.

With regard to the HDD space required, I have 2 GB RAM which therefore
requires 2GB of HDD space, which is easily available.
