crash when trying to resume from standby/hibernation

I got a ASUS F2J Notebook and windows xp sp2 installed on it. All
patches and windows updates are installed. My problem is that i'm
unable to resume from standby or hibernation mode.

Going into hibernation oder standby seems to work perfectly, but i
can't resume. My notebook crashes immidiately after i press the power
button to "wake it up". I can see the hdd and power led flashing for a
second but that's it and it turns off. Pressing the power button again
results in a cold start of windows.

Any ideas or hints are much appreciated!

The power button is turning the box off.
Use the any key or move the mouse to bring the
box out of standby.
