pc shutdown

does any one know why my pc suddenly shuts down after about 20 minutes
of playing a dvd or connecting something into my usb hub
and how to fix it (using xp)

Sounds suspiciously like a hardware failure. Power draw and or heat related.

But I agree with the other poster that this sounds like hardware. Is your
computer fan spinning at full speed?

I would also take a look at Event Viewer for possible clues.

Go to Start > Run and type
eventvwr.msc
click OK

Look in the Application and System views (trees) for errors flagged with a
red X.

Does it also shut down if you do nothing for 20 minutes? Does it really
shut down or does the display just turn off or
go into power saving mode? If either, then look at the power saving and
hiberation settings. Playing DVD's and CD's
the system isn't aware that anything is happening.
