Welcome to this weeks PC Review News Edition - with a roundup of the latest technology and computing news.

The next few weeks will be quite busy here at PCR, as we have a new site design due to be released, mainly improving loading times and ease of navigation.

IANAG have a writeup on the up and coming Windows XP SP2, which is due to be released in the next few months. Most of the new features seem like very worthwhile developments, and should improve general security throughout the whole operating system. The SP2 Beta is available on the net already.

In earlier versions of Windows, there is a window of time between when the network stack was running and when Windows Firewall provides protection. This results in the ability for a packet to be received and delivered to a service without Windows Firewall filtering and potentially exposes the computer to vulnerabilities. This was due to the firewall driver not starting to filter until the firewall service was loaded and had applied appropriate policy.

PCUnleash take a look at the new Soltek QBIC EQ3702M SFF PC. This is one of the most attractive SFF PCs to be released, however noise does seem to be a problem with this PC.

Digital Daily have a very interesting roundup of the past years video cards, all benchmarked head to head. It is interesting to see how each card compares, although I was shocked to see that the NVidia cards are regularly beating the 9800XT series.

Whilst on the topic of graphics cards, [H]ardOCP have a 9800XT vs 5950FX article, which concludes that the 9800XT is Superior in most games, seemingly contradicting the Digital Daily article.

As with all 9800XTs, if you can afford one, there is no doubt you will be pleased with its performance and features. With the ABIT 9800XT, you will without a doubt have a hardcore gamers video card sporting the best 3D rendering technology that money can currently buy.
