PC rebooting. not sasser (or is it!?)

wayne

When I connect to the internet just using a dial up
connection, it connects fine. As soon as I open up
Internet Explorer, the PC reboots. I have run a stinger
from McAfee and the cleaning tool from microsoft and they
do not detect a virus. This started on 5/2(day after
sasser was released). PLEASE HELP!!!!

OS - Win 2000 Pro
IE 6
Compaq Presario

Thanks
Wayne

Are you getting a small box saying it is coming from the NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM because something or another failed (It said Isass.exe was messing up at work and the Remote Procedure Call system was messing up at home) and that you have 1 minute before the restart? If it is then it is most likely sasser. That is what my computer kept doing whenever I was online and the computer at work. Both had sasser. I did system scan with Norton on both and neither one showed having the virus but that was because it was not updated. Check your anti-virus and make sure it is scanning for it.

No error messages at all. It just reboots. Problem is, I
cannot connect to the internet to update Norton. I did
get a McAfee stinger from work and ran it. I also ran
Microsofts cleaning tool on it. No sasser.

HELP!!!

Try this tool just for Sasser and see if this helps:
