PC no longer boots

I was given an old PC to clean up and then give to a needy user. So I
connected it up to my monitor and mouse/keyboard, and did so. I then
re-connected my own PC, a HP P4/2.8GHz with a XFX 2600 in it. It
didn't boot. This isn't entirely unheard of, so I simply did what I
normally do in that situation, and Safe booted. That didn't work
either. It gets stuck on the line "agp400.sys" and just sits there.

I assume this is the video driver from the name, but beyond that I
have no idea what to do. Any advice?

Maury

p.s. E-mail ping would be appreciated

Try booting from last known good configuration.

it's actually stopping at the *next* device. If you turn on boot logging,
you can generate a text file with details.

Try attaching the drive to another system, and delete from the root,
pagefile.sys. Put the drive back, and reboot. the first boot may hang,
and you may need to power off and reboot; but I've found that this can fix
such boot problems.

Yes, this was the problem. It is somewhat ironic that using Last Known
Good is what _causes_ this to occur.

Sadly, after "fixing" the problem using the instructions you linked
to, the machine then stopped on MUP.sys. That required a complete re-
install.

*sigh*
