PC freezes when the domain network disconnected or unavailable

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
Network is domain with mapped net drives.
When the PC is connected to the domain network it operates smoothly with no
glitches.
However, when I disconnect my laptop from the domai network , laptop freezes
for 10-15 seconds each time. This will happen every 30 seconds.
Any mouse movements or keystrokes I make inside the 10-15 seconds freeze
period are then rapidly fed to the PC. So I often get 'Hellllo World' for
example if the PC freezes mid-typing.
There are some workstation in our network behaves exactly the same, but
there are some of it don't.
There are three optional acts helps in this situations:
1. Reconnect the network.
2. Disable network adapter.
3. Restart Windows XP and login domain offline.

Please advise, what kind of network settings may cause this problem.

Thanks in advance for any responses,
Evgeniy

Disconnect the mapped drives and create shortcuts instead. The laptop is
looking for the mapped drives and having difficulties when it doesn't find
them. I don't know why your particular laptop is having these difficulties
because I can't see it, but shortcuts work better on mobile computers than
mapped network resources.
