All you have to do is put it on the ide ribbon... just be sure it's properly jumpered. BTW: If the machine crashed...maybe there's an easy fix... maybe you'd want to give more details

Like, just turn it back on again! A crash is a software problem, windows will tell you what crashed, or will just carry on like nothing happened!
