PC Chips Motherboard Problem

Just installed a Sempron 2800 on a PC CHIPS M825G 333 motherboard. I
installed Windows just fine, but noticed it was showing an Athlon MP 1600
processor. Cpu Clock was set at 133 on MB, so I changed it to 166. It now
shows correctly as a Sempron 2800. Problem is now Windows goes to BSOD.
So I attempted to do a clean install and when it started Windows setup again
BSOd. Any ideas or do I have something set wrong...

Have you checked the latest bios for Sempron support, if you haven't the
latest bios your board may not run a Sempron.

PC Chips is just plain a bad...
most machines i've worked on that used PC Chips mobo's were unstable
unless i underclocked them...
you should just leave it it 133 mhz if that's what it takes to keep it
stable.

if there is a multiplier setting you can adjust...
you may be able to clock it up a bit faster

Is your RAM rated for the higher speed?

| Ok BIOS is up to date, but still no luck using 166 cpu
clock speed. Any

Apart from the memory I can't think of anything else now. I know you said it
was 2700/333 is it branded memory or if you have more than one module have
you tried one module on its own. If you can borrow a module and try it at
least you could rule that out.

all the best

PS I run a +2600XP on a PC Chips M848ALU v2.1 and have never had any
trouble.

Have tried the memory solution to no avail. It will boot just fine at the
166 cpu clock , but Windows does the BSOD routine. Even on a clean install
same problem. At booting it reports a Sempron 2800+. If I change to 133
clock speed it reports an Athlon MP 1900, but will boot just fine..
???????

I think I'm out of ideas now. Only other thing I can think of, have you set
the BIOS to its safe default settings I must admit it sounds like a timing
problem to me.

Best of luck.

Ok , figured it out. It was a cooling problem on a Sempron 2800. Weird
thing was it was seated correctly with extra artic compound. Removed
fan/heatsink, and put back on the same way and heat went down 50 degrees.
