I am new to frontpage 2003 and have been trying to add a paypal add to cart
button but instead of geeting a button on the page I get html code. Any idea
where I'm going wrong please?

You might need to copy the code into notepad and then copy that from notepad
into your HTML source code

Apologies for the delay in replying. I tried this but still get html code
instead of button so perhaps I'm missing something during the paypal process?

When you copy the code from PayPal, paste it into Notepad first, then copy and paste into your page
in FP in HTML/Code View.

Thanks for the info. I'm Ok as far as pasting into notepad but not quite
sure what you mean by pasting in HTML/Code view

Switch to the code view in Frontpage (so you're looking at the code, rather
than the graphical user interface view). Then paste the paypal code into
your code at the spot you want it.

If you put the "Split view" on (you get the normal and code view, so you can
see the code and design view at the same time.

Position your cursor in the Design view at the point you want the code, then
click inside the code view window; this moves the cursor to the equivalent
point in the code, as it is in the design view. Then copy/paste the paypal
code into the code view window at the point where the cursor is flashing,
then click back in the design view which refreshes with the newly added
element (your paypal button(s) and the form to make them work etc.

Thanks for infor. Have just tried pasting in html/code view and it still
doesn't work so I assume I'm missing something out on paypal site. I go to
merchant tools > keyfeatures - paypal shopping cart on RHS > step 1
integrate the paypal shopping cart> click get started on LHS> fill in
details of photos> add to cart button section > click on add to cart button
continue > create button now> highlight and copy code into notepad ......
so have I missed a step out? --

Paste into a message here, the code as you copied from PP to notepad, and then past the code after
you have pasted it into FP from notepad after you have first saved the page.

I'm still not quite there. I'm progressing in that I now don't get html code
on the page but now instead of the expected button I'm getting a little box
with a red cross in it.

When I click on page where I want button to go (in split view), in the code
section a letter or shape is highlighted in blue - do I click before or after
this highlighed letter before copying in paypal code.

I'm determined this isn't going to beat me!

I would type in XXX in design pane at the point I want the button.
Highlight the XXX.
This will also be highlighted in Code section, overwrite (in Code View)
the XXX with the button code.
It is likely you will get a red X unless you have a copy of the button
image in your web site. If so, the button code should have a pointer to
that image. Otherwise, the code is looking for the image on PayPal's
website.

I'm not sure what you mean by I will get red x "unless I have a copy of the

Have tried xxx and still get red cross.

The PayPal button is an image. Do you have a copy of that image in your
web site?
If you do, the PayPal code should use that copy, and there should not be
a re X, unless the image is not where the code expects it to be.

If you do not have a copy of the image, the PayPal code will look for
the image on PayPal's web site. If you are connected to the Internet
preview in Browser should display the image.

Post the PayPal code (change any userids, account numbers and passwords)
here.

I have used PayPal buttons lots of times, you do not need a copy of
the image in your web site, itis pulled from PayPal. you will see it
correctly in Preview View, if you have an active Internet connection.
I teach FrontPage in Community Education and have a web site you can
look at http://www.xfp2003.wyzguys.net.
