I have not done ecommerce yet, but I've studied about different options
because I do plan to do it in the future. From what I've read, the most
recommended systems/sites - in terms of overall ease to set up and quality -
are
www.frontpagecart.com and
www.storefront.net . At least you may find

You'd have to find a third party shopping cart and which one you use will
depend on what is compatible with your server. There are a couple that are
free: CandyPress & Comerus - (well, almost free)
Some are very expensive.
You'll also have to have a method of receiving credit card payments..and
don't forget security.
You don't have to worry about any of this with Paypal, so if your a newbie
you might want to start off with Paypal and if the biz takes off you can
switch, in the meantime you'll have time to study up on how to do your own
shopping cart.
