Pasting Charts from Excell into Powerpoint

I am using Powerpoint 2002 on XP and trying to paste
several charts into a presentation. However even using
paste special and selecting Bitmap or Enhanced Metafile
the file becomes absolutely huge i.e. 90MB. Before using
an earlier version of PPT and Windows 98 the same
presentation was only around 1.5 MB.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

If you copy/paste normally, you get the whole spreadsheet stored in PPT, once
for each pasted object.

Copy/Pasting as EMF shouldn't cause that to happen but instead try:

Paste, Special, click to put a check next to Link.

Then ungroup the chart if you want to break the link.
