Paste changes spacing / want to keep headers bold, and keep the normal spacing that I normallly have

I have a question. I know I can paste something into notepad and it erases the formatting and then I can manage it how I want it in Word

What I need to know though is this. Sometimes I paste some information for myself from a webpage to Word. It's something I want to keep and use, and I change the formatting to suit my needs. For example, the page has certain headers in bold, and I like to keep them that way. If I was to use notepad, then I would have to go in and recreate the bold items and there are too many in this document and that would be too time consuming.

So, I just paste it directly to Word

When I do that though, it puts large spacing between the lines. It's not like that on the web page, but it is when I paste it in Word. When I go to try to correct this one line at a time, it's time consuming and still doesn't always turn out right

So, I want to be able to do a 'select all', and figure out how to make the spacing NORMAL <like most documents normally create automatically> AND be able to keep my words in BOLD in the document

I've tried 'auto format' and that does not fix it

It's difficult to say, since we can't look over you shoulder... Could be one of two
things

1. The text from the webpage has been formatted with a style that's in the target
document (H1 = Heading 1, for example). And the text is taking on the style format.
In this case, redefining the style format should apply to everything formatted with
the style. If you're unfamiliar with this concept, tell us the version of Word you
have and we should be able to point you on the path

2. The formatting is coming through as part of the HTML. In this case, it's "direct
formatting", of the paragraph type. Try selecting some text like this and pressing
Ctrl+Q.
