I just installed XP Home on new hard drive. after install it is asking for a
password at startup, but I never installed a password... how do I get past
that screen without a password?

Boot the computer in safe mode and use the Administrator account to reset the
password. The built-in Administartor account for XP Home usually has no
password. Follow the directions from this KB article.

Thanks. I did try that also, but long story short I just reformated the hard
drive and re-installed xp. It woked and it gave me a fresh start. Thank you.

I'm in the same situation. WinXP upgrade on a new HDD and its asking for a
password. Did the f8 thing, and the Administrator account is asking for a
password also. HELP!!?? Thanks in advance!
