I was given access to a computer with a temporary
password. After changing the password to my own, I log
out, but my log-in screen still shows (no problem) but one
only needs to hit ok and can then access the computer
without a password.

This stays true even when I shut down and restart the
computer. My log-in screen pops up and again-access.

Any ideas?

Upgrade your Windows 98. That's the default behavior.
