Password saving for RDP setups

Guest

Is there a way when creating a (RDP) Remote Desktop Protocol connection on
Windows Vista to save the username and password information so that you do
not always have to enter it when using the created RDP connection?

I greatly appreciate your help in this inquiry.

Thank you
Gary

sure, after you connect the first time then go to OPTIONS and see this

just save it or press save as, and give it a name...
I have saved the RDP setup but my Windows Vista always is bringing up the
windows security window asking to enter your credentials and even when I've
clicked on remember my credentials when I chose this saved RDP I still end up
back at the username and password security window.

Think about it, you're trying to connect to another machine remotely. And
because of security reasons, either you know the user-id and psw to logon to
the remote computer or you don't.

Sure ... I know the username and password....BUT we have 150 users who may be
using RDP into a terminal server and were on XP computers which saved this
information. NOW THESE users on windows vista are having to put in their
username and password every time they log into the terminal server.

Maybe, the link will help you.

Or you can use Google to find other possible solutions.

Or you can call MS for support.

hello...

Here is a little insight that may help you....

if you create the rdp files and save them from an xp machine with rdp client
5.x , then copy those xp files to a vista machine, then it wont ask for
password, because the rdp client 5.1 embeds the password inside the rdp
file.

The rdp file itself is compatible with both clients.

I have here in this screenshot 2 rdp files open. one was generated by XP
client 5.1 and the other with client vista 6 (or the new rdp client for xp
that is 6 also)
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9065/screenshot2bi7.jpg

As you can see the one on the right has the password embeded in a encrypted
way. I just opened the RDP files
with notepad to see whats inside...

Can you make all the rdp files on an XP machine and then distribute them to
the users on the network?
150 saves is not that bad....

There is also a posibility that you can copy the old client from an xp
machine to vista and try to use that to connect.. or at least generate the
RDP file
with the embeded password.. I might try this later on out of curiosity...

I am sure this information will help you now...

Tell me if it did....

I don't have to do this for the machine I connect to on my LAN or on the
internet.

Just don't tick 'Always ask for credentials' on the General tab. Also, on
the Advanced tab, under Authentification Options, select Always connect,
even authentification fails to get rid of the security dialogue.

The information gets written to Documents as default, as a hidden
Default.rdp file. You can save alternative .rdp files for different
machines and save them anywhere, if you so wish.

What you are asking is entirely possible, as far as I can see.

I have tried every one of the suggestions and so far have been unsuccessful
in saving the credentials .(username & password) for the RDP login using
windows vista. Clicking on save credentials is not saving the credentials...

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions...still looking.

SOLUTION: Found ..Thanks to User abckid ...

Go to Start - Run and type "control keymgr.dll". This will give you options
to
Store your credentials for servers. Just Add the IP address of the sever or
name (Ex:asap.alliedinfo.net) you need to Log on to and Username and Password.
(Ex: allied/username allied-2150/pwd) Select "A Web site or program
Credential" as credential type and OK. (Save and exit)

Then Start - Run - "mstsc" and click on Options -
Advanced Tab: Select
Authentication options: Always connect, even if authentication fails.
Settings: Use these TS Gateway Server Settings is chosen

Experience Tab: Checked are: Themes & bitmap caching and reconnect if
connection is dropped

Programs Tab: Nothing is checked

Local Resources Tab: Remote computer sound: Bring to this computer
Keyboard: In full screen mode only
Local devices and resources: checked is printers and clipboard

Display Tab: Remote desktop size=Full Screen
Colors=256 colors
Check display the connection bar when in full screen mode

General Tab:
Computer . is (Ex: asap.alliediinfo.net or Ip address)
You should see your saved user name (Ex: allied)
SAVE AS and give this a name

Now when connecting no screen should come up after saying connect other than
your Terminal Server/REMOTE screen just like the old RDP connections.
