Password retention

I recently purchased my new computer containing XP. The simple task of having password retention is not so simple. Each time I logon on to either email through Outlook Express, or my work email through explorer, I am forced to type in my password even though the remember password button is clicked.

Is there a specific setting that allows me to truly activate this function or will XP not allow passwords to be remembered

Thanks for your help.
