Password recovery help?

How can I get my password to get into Win2000 on my old work Dell latitude
PII PC?

I dont know admin password for Win2000 laptop and now my personnel password
doesnt work any longer either.

I DO NOT have any Win2000 CDs to create a boot disk.

I did my best Google to find a solution and found a admin password solution
with this:
http://www.lostpassword.com/windows-xp-2000-nt.htm

Unfortunately it requires a boot disk which I need the Win2000 install disk
to create...again I have no disks.

If I can get it running, laptop will be fine for me to use a Backup server
to drive external HD on my home LAN. I dont want to spend $200 for XP OS
for this when Dell Latitude PII is pretty worthless, and I can buy a brand
new PC P4 from Dell for about 150 more. Also I dont want to go the steep
learning curve to put Linux on it.

Can I create a win2000 boot disk with some download or something?

Any help appreciated.
Thank you

There are several ways to resolve this problem:

- The easy way: Log on under the alternative admin account
that you wisely created when things were going fine, then reset
the passwords to the other accounts.

- The hard way: Boot the machine with a boot disk from the
link below, then reset the password for the admin account.

thx. 2nd way is the approach I have to take. I tried to download but the
burn cd instructions dont come close to matching the file names that are
downloaded. so I guess im back to square 1

If you want to use the bootable CD version of ntpasswd, you only need to download the appropriate .zip file, which contains only one file, an ..iso image file. You don't copy that to the CD, you use it to make the CD -- any CD burning software should be able to do that.

thanks...I must be on the wrong one then.. becuase the download is a single
zip file, and inside it is a .rar file and inside it are about 8 other
files. None of which have a .iso suffix. there are 3 downloads there for
floppy, CD and somehthing else. Ill look at the something else, maybe thats
it. the site Im looking at is
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Ill take another look and email him too to see if he minds responding.

thanks

ok..i got it to work..thanks. My PC was simply applying a .rar icon to the
file and I assumed it was .rar. Burned the CD and when through the process
and everything is cool now.

thanks!
