Password Protected Storage System

P

Peter Williams

Using Microsft Outlook 2002 on a Windows Professional XP system.
Recently had to reinstall Outlook XP and now when I send and receive I
can enter the acoounts passwords and retrieve my emails but the system
doesn't remember the passwords for my accounts.
Have tried the usual fixes via Tools. and even the 'usual fix' via
regedit. That's when it gets interesting; when I enter the Password
Protected Storage System file and tried the altering permissions then
deleting the subfiles. Problem was/is there aren't any subfiles to
delete.
Anyone else encountered this problem or, better still, anyone have a
solution.
Thanks,
PJW

You would usually have a Subkey like S-1-5-21-XXXXXXX... which is
responsible for storing passwords for Outook and Outlook Express in the
Windows OS. If the subkeys are missing, i assume there might be some issues
with the HKEY_CURRENT_USER tree and a New Windows User Account should
resolve the issue.

BTW I assume that you are going to this location to check the PSSP key..

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider
