Recurring password requests

Whenever Outlook 2007 is running, it repeatedly asks me for the
network password. i searched this forum yesterday and found a
previous response from Patricia Cardoza, MVP and followed the
instructions, though it was for Outlook 2002. I got into the registry
and found the HKEY for Protected Storage System Provider. The
instructions said to click Yes in the warning message dialog box, but
there is only 1 (though 4 identities were listed) and all the boxes
were grayed.

I've re-entered the password in Tools/accounts and in Control Panel/
Mail, all to no avail. What do I do now, PLEASE. It's driving me
nuts--2 or 3 requests in a row every minute.

If you're in Windows Vista or 7, you can't use those instructions because
those versions don't use the Protected Storage subsystem. See if one of thse
suggestions helps:

If you are getting 2/3 requests every minute that might suggest that your
polling interval is set too low, set it for 10 mins minimum, too short and
it can lead to resource problems

Forgot to say I'm using XP.

Outlook in Safe Mode still had the recurrent password requests. Very
few COM addi-ins and I removed all except 3 that seemed essential
(like email indexing) - made no difference.
There is nothing entered in the Protected Storage Syste Provider
subfolder - it just says default, REG_SZ and no value . I don't know
what polling settings are.
So what do I do now?

The polling is not the problem--set to 30 min. Can this problem be
solved by reinstallng Outlook?

Uninstall / Reinstall does nothing for a configeration issue, generally you
would try a new outlook Profile, not copy old
